As
Wilkes Barre City Council is all set to re-anoint Billy Boy Barrett as (Grand Poobah)
Council Chairman, Billy issues a stern warning in today’s Citizens Voice.
Barrett
said:
- I have a lower tolerance for some of the behavior I've seen. I will not allow it to get worse
- You don't have five minutes to address whatever you want
Wake Up
Billy, YES YOU DO!!
This is America and the First Amendment is still binding on The
City Wilkes Barre, until such time, as you actually file those Articles of Secession!!
The
city has an ordinance that allows the council chair to ban residents from
speaking if they make "impertinent or slanderous remarks" or address
council in a "boisterous" manner.
Hum... you
would choose to ban Kobby but not your buddy Leo for verbally slandering members of The Taxpayers Group???
- While Leo himself, seems to be on probation.
- Clike here for Leo's Rap Sheet
A staff
attorney from the American Civil Liberties Union responded to the city's move
with a letter warning them against limiting speech at the meetings.
"Both
the Sunshine Law and the First Amendment preserve the public's right to express
their opinions to their government. They need not do so politely or with
'decorum,'" said the letter. "In particular, the council may not
institute a rule that would forbid speakers from upsetting others who attend
the meetings (including, of course, Council members)."
The
state's Sunshine Act requires residents to be allowed to speak about
"matters of concern, official action or deliberation which are or may be
before the board."
Suck it
up Billy, Citizens may say what they want, how they want, and you may not stop
them!!!
You
could have stopped Leo from berating good citizens that speak up, but
you didn’t, and now you want to silence the honest voices?
- I think not!!
Wake Up
Wilkes Barre
